Filling Station

If you want amazing pastries, good food, and of course great coffee, then the Filling Station is for you. Filling Station serves a lot of things from your basic coffee menu of drip, lattes, and cappuccinos, as well as an awesome fresh juice menu. They also have a soup of the day as well as quiches. A line of sandwiches, wraps, and salads fills their menu. Everything is made fresh daily and to order. They have two locations, one off of 30th and Gillham, as well as, Westport Road and Southwest Trafficway.

I have been to the Filling Station many times before this. It kind of made me a little sad to realize that I have not blogged about it yet. I was happy to take one of my friends to the Filling Station for their first experience. I was on the search for some Soda Vie, a local soda that is made from natural ingredients. I heard on Instagram from a follower that the Filling Station would have it. I was excited to find that they had some.

My friend was surprised and slightly overwhelmed from the selection of pastries they had. We decided on the Apple Maple Bacon Muffin. They offered to heat it up for us. The muffin looked delicious and from the first bite to the last it was fantastic. Their pastries are baked fresh every morning and you can taste it. It was very moist, and there was bacon was throughout the entire muffin. On top of the muffin was a maple butter-cream frosting to hold some bacon on top as a garnish.

They do not roast their own coffee, but they do use a couple of the best coffees in town, in my opinion. Oddly Correct for their drip coffee. Broadway Roastery for their espresso based drinks. My friend got the traditional cappuccino served in a 6 oz ceramic mug and served with beautiful latte art, of course. I got a gibraltar, basically a double ristretto shot and two ounces of steamed milk.  Our drinks were delicious. Milk was steamed to perfection, adding a nice sweetness to the drinks. Timmy, the barista, served us and did amazing on those drinks.

When I am at the Filling Station, I can not leave without a juice. Imagine NAKED Juice, but much better. Their juices are made with fresh fruits and vegetables right before your eyes. My juice of choice is Liquid Sunshine. It contains carrots, strawberries, oranges, lemons, and apple. It is a drink that will wake me up in the morning with my cup of coffee, or a nice pick-me-up in the afternoon.

With two locations in Kansas City, you will be able to the enjoy the goodness of the pastries, coffees, and tea at both. Although, for the food and juices, you can only enjoy them at the 29th and Gillham location. Stop by and enjoy. Be forewarned, it is usually pretty packed, but both locations have a nice outdoor patio, which will be nice when Spring decides to come to Kansas City.
